The Last Poets are one of the most important cultural and politcal figures in american music and culture, enlightening a whole generation in the 1970s about racism, poverty and other African American societal concerns.
The Last Poets - 1969, Mt. Morris Park, Harlem. Young poets, honoring the anniversary of Malcolm X's birthday fused poetry and music and became warriors with words igniting the civil rights movement with their artisitc expression. Nearly 35 years later at another critical juncture in our nations history, they collaborate with the most conscious minds in today's hip hop world to produce a record of unprecedented artistry and intellect. "When We Come Together" trails them from the first track laid down in the East Village in 2002 to a triumphant return to Harlem with a concert in August 2005.
