Thanks to everyone (Mansion, Doctor/Nurse, the Mumlers, all the artists/vendors) that came out to make the premier STREET MRKT downtown a great evening. Special thanks to our friends that always volunteer to make your experience here an inspired one. Mark you calendar for July 7th when STREET MRKT returns with South FIRST FRIDAYS... we have a great stage planned for you again featuring highlights from the Bleeding Edge Festival courtesy of our friends at Montalvo Art Center! As a prelude to the South First Fridays gallery walk in the SoFA district, we'll be hosting a Street Mrkt beneath the outdoor murals of A.D.

Artists, local vendors & three bands will be on hand for an early evening of art, ecclectic retail and great music.

Poor Al put together a hell of a show with 68 artists (too many to list here, but many of which you've seen here at A.D.) all working in collaboration. The exhibit is going on now at Subject Matter (Costa Mesa, CA) thru June 18th. It's not mentioned on their site (yet), so here's a link to an interview with Poor Al on the Juxtapoz site.

Jack Fischer has a good run down of the new "Art Ark, Artisian Village" on his blog here. Equally important are his comments regarding the need for more projects like this in SJ to keep our artists here.

Check it out and if you're an interested artist, contact the developer soon as acceptence is first come first served to those that qualify.

We just visited a new used book store on the second floor of 330 So. Third Street in downtown San Jose. It's called William's Great Books and the owner, William Curdton, says he has 9,000 sq ft of books in storage to sell in his 800 sq ft store space (from what he told us, he has the left over inventory of the former Twice Read Books on San Fernando that closed down last year.)

There were quite a few "vintage" sci-fi books, old magazines, art books, etc. Most seemed pretty well read over, but there were a few better condition books in his glass case, and a shelf dedicated to his ebay listings. We noticed a pretty good range of prices from $1 - $40. We're happy to have him in the neighborhood and wish him the best!

We're incredibly pleased to congratulate Titus Kaphar on his invitation to the Studio Museum Harlem Artist in Residency program. The residency program is a high honor that includes a free studio space, a significant fellowship and an exhibit of completed works at the end of the residency.

Titus, a former San Jose resident and AD exhibiting artist has made great strides in his time at Yale these past two years, and we know this is just the beginning of a great many things for Titus!

For those of you that picked up a Porous Walker artpiece for 5 bucks at our 2004 Fresh Produce (only to find your 5 bucks returned to you in an envelope on the back!) did real good....Porous was just named "Best Cartoonist" by SF Weekly's Best of San Francisco 2006 issue. Well deserved PW!

Works/ San Jose is pleased to announce its second Call for Proposals for the Paulette Peterson Installation Space at Works at 30 N. Third St. in downtown San Jose, CA

Lisa Dewey began playing live shows in 1990. The ethereal sound of her music starts as folk songs that transform into floaty pop. As a Kitchen Whore Records recording artist Lisa lives and performs in the South Bay.

We all want unconditional love and now we can have it. The Unconditional Love Machine has come to pump out their acoustic punk driven music. This trio of husband, wife and wife's best friend is from Santa Cruz but they've come over the hill with their guitar, drums and violin to give you a sonic hug you won't soon forget!

The Snippets show features artwork by Frances Marin & Anabella Pinon in the Studio Gallery and Tim Cottengim & John Kurtyka in the Cottage Gallery (all at Al Preciado's house.) Special events throughout the day includes a sculpture workshop and a book reading.

Burning Man, in support of the Black Rock Foundation, is sponsoring a crazy lineup of 45 fire artists at Monster Park (formerly Candlestick) this May 18, 19 & 20th. Tickets range from $20 for a one night pass, to $125 for all events pass. For more info and full line up, check it here.

Thanks to those of you that made it out for Navin Norling's Opening Reception at Anno Domini this past Friday. To those of you that were deterred as a result of San Jose's Cinqo de Mayo welcoming committee, aka... the police blockades, we're sorry for the inconvenience. We heard some of you trekked distances as far as Los Angeles only to be turned away at the limits of our fine downtown. Such a shame that safety has to come this way.

Be sure to stop through to see Navin's exhibit, BOOTLEG BABY, through June 17, 2006. It was great having him out here with us on the West Coast.
