Anabella creating posse portraits

Many of you know artist Bella, she has been a gallery angel at Anno Domini on First Fridays, she has been a trooper for Phantom Galleries, she was a core member of Heart of Chaos, a board member and kid's workshop instructor at WORKS, an instructor at the Children's Discovery Museum, a prolific photographer, and on and on and on with her time, talents and inspiring energy!

Anabella leaves for Albuquerque, NM tomorrow, and we will all miss her terribly! (Roadtrip to tumbleweed territory anyone?!)

Aftermath, Artifact by Titus Kaphar

Congratulations to Titus Kaphar (AD 2004) on finishing up his Artist in Residence at the Studio Musuem Harlem!

The culminating exhibition entitled "Midnight's Daydream," features Titus and his two fellow residents: Wardell Milan II and Demetrius Oliver. There's a lengthy review on their exhibit in the NY Times which you can read here.

The San Jose Jazz Festival takes over downtown San Jose this weekend with some great performances on the schedule. In the spirit of collaboration, Anno Domini jumped into the mix and put a special Jazz-scented Dig Dug together to keep you vinyl junkies in the swing of things. Our resident host, Nate Nothing, even managed to put together a little something extra in the way of an Official Wax Poetics Release Party for East of Underground!

SUNSET SCAVENGER
Post-Utopia California and Post-Katrina Lousiana
photos by Bill Daniel

Itinerant documentarian, Bill Daniel, mounts a show of large-scale black and white photographs juxtaposing two contrasting landscapes: the floating hippie houseboats of Marin County, California, and the wrecked landscapes of New Orleans and St. Bernard Parrish in post-Katrina Louisiana.

Sunset Scavenger is an on-going film and photography project exploring images and themes of social and environmental collapse in the last days of the petroleum era. This show is part of Daniel's larger project investigating marginal subcultures and their relationship with the environment. Sunset Scavenger is a supported project of Creative Capital.

David Choe and Harry Kim visit New Orleans in this episode of Thumbs Up! Day 14 was taped about a year after Katrina hit the city. "I can't believe this is America," states Choe as he looks around at the devastation heading to the 9th ward. Check out the video on VBS.tv.
