Saner sent us these amazing photos of his opening last Friday, April 18th at Border Gallery. For his first solo exhibit in his hometown, he created works of art that were intended to be destroyed after 180 minutes.
from the Border Gallery announcement:
"180 minutes Alive" is an artistic and reflexive project structured in 3 murals which relates different unities of time and space.
Each one of these discursive unities tells a story or a relevant event of the author's life. In each mural the artwork is shown presenting different materials, techniques and aesthetics. The interventions can be understood as a collection of memories, an evocation of the sacred, the untouchable, the precious object...
This time, the opening of the show involves its destruction. After 180 minutes of exhibition the artwork will be destroyed. A collection of ephemeral art is shown. The paintings, illustrations and graffiti will only be able to last in the spectator's memory. The art pieces were created with the idea of destruction in Saner's mind which makes them impossible to acquire. Each artwork has some minutes of life, after that time it will be part of a final composition destroyed or performed - it depends on the spectator - in a live act. The fact that this pieces are not "available" makes them free, priceless and of course, without owner.
The results of the destruction performance left "many people confused" according to Saner. There's more photos of the work, the destruction and the crowd on Saner's blog here. May the pieces rest in peace. The exhibit is on view through May15th.
