Activists Hang 60-Foot Banner On Plaza Hotel
This morning, a group of young professionals and students from across the country, unfurled a giant banner in midtown Manhattan off the front of the Plaza Hotel. The banner was critical of the Bush/Cheney Administration’s poor record of leadership during its term in office. Two climbers safely rappelled down the facade of the NYC landmark in order to deploy the banner, which stretched 60-feet across and several floors high, depicted arrows pointed in opposite directions; the forward pointing arrow, titled "Truth", contrasted sharply with the backwards pointing arrow, titled "Bush".
“We love our country, but Bush and Cheney are taking us in the wrong direction”, said Terra Lawson-Remer, an organizer with New York City’s Operation Sibyl. “Bush lied about WMDs and Iraq, and he continues to deceive us regarding healthcare and the state of the economy. We can’t afford four more years of deception, miscalculation, and arrogance.”
Revelations that members of the Bush/Cheney Administration knowingly lied about supposed stock piles of chemical weapons and weapons of mass destruction programs in Iraq in order to justify a pre-emptive war exemplify a pattern of deception that has become a hallmark of this government. The same pattern of deception has led to tax cuts benefiting the richest Americans, the highest unemployment rates in decades while consumer confidence remains at historic lows.
“Engaging in creative, peaceful civil disobedience to hold our government accountable serves to revitalize democracy,” said Lawson-Remer. “Throughout history such actions have secured the right to vote for women, ended segregation, and hastened the end of unjust wars.”
“There is a real choice in this election. Everyone has a stake in the outcome,” added New York based Operation Sibyl member Adam Berenzweig. “Our action today was dramatic because the difference between a Bush and a Kerry Administration would be dramatic.”
All four climbers were arrested and await charges at the Midtown precinct. Operation Sybil is a group of young professionals and students who organized around this election to unseat George Bush. The group is named after the Greek oracle at Delphi, Sybil, who role was to expose truth to humankind.

Gotta hand it to Yoshitomo Nara... he's so eloquent. His unlimited lithograph just seems to sum it all up. Don't you agree?

Creative Genius
~Characteristics of Creative Genius
Are you a creative genius? Take a look at this one study of creatives and their characteristics.
I have always had an insatiable curiosity.
I am able to run my mind on multiple tracks at the same time.
I learn rapidly and retain / apply what I learn.
I tend to be very independent.
I tend to be less motivated than others are by rewards, bonuses, and praise.
At times I have asked embarrassing questions or rudely pointed out truths at the wrong time.
My preference for the complex can fool me into underestimating the simple answer.
I like to refine and improve others' innovations.
I feel comfortable with a wide range of emotions.
I can see many sides to nearly any issue.
Honesty, integrity, and ethics are important to me.
I can help others understand themselves better.
I am a seeker and champion of ultimate truths.
My nervous system is easily aroused, and I am able to discern the slightest changes in my environment (aromas, shifts in light, etc.) or detect irritants (e.g. scratchy sweater label).
I can feel along with and for others.
I set high standards for myself and for others and am my own worst critic.
I tend to look for consistency and security in systems, rules, and orderliness.
I am often considered a "driven" person.
I have maintained my childlike sense of wonder.
I am intent on searching out universal truths.
I am deeply disturbed by inequity, exploitation, corruption, and needless human suffering.
I can and do work myself to exhaustion.
Some people think I'm too serious.
I have always been interested in social reform.
I value and will defend diversity.
I have a strong need to "make a difference."
I have a penchant for risk-taking.
I can and do ignore my own needs for the sake of others.

Zach Braff's Garden State
I can count on one hand the number of films I've been willing to throw down my hard-earned cash for twice while they are still in the theater. I like to go back to see if the magic is still there the second time around. That's when you know there's something to it. Garden State is as beautiful, surreal (as our lives truly are) and poignant the second time around. It's showing on over 600 screens this weekend! Check it out.

Black Rider in SF

I've been looking forward to this ever since we bought the album in '93... "In The Black Rider, Robert Wilson, Tom Waits, and William Burroughs present a strange and hilarious theatrical wonderland, a musical fable of love, evil, and human folly steeped in the folklore of the past and bursting with the art of the future."
