Bush Monkeys Over The Holland Tunnel
Artist Christopher Savido has been getting some press for the past two weeks after his painting "Bush Monkeys" was pulled from an art exhibit at the Chelsea Market in Manhattan. His controversial portrait of President George W. Bush (composed of smaller images of monkeys) instigated the 60-piece exhibit to be entirely shut down by the market's managers.
Anonymous donors reportedly paid for the image to be posted on a giant digital billboard earlier this week over the entrance of the Holland Tunnel, used by thousands of commuters travelling between Manhattan and New Jersey. Organizers expect more than 400,000 drivers to see the billboard each day for the next month. The original painting is scheduled to be auctioned on eBay; It had been priced at $3,500 at the exhibit opening.
