Call for Entries: Dress: Art as Clothing, Clothing as Art
Deadline: May 31, 2005
This call is for existing artworks that address clothing as a sculptural medium. Projects should emphasize the condition of the body in clothes, informed by soft sculpture, performance and body-art precedents of the past 40 years. Works that can withstand contact are encouraged, as are projects that invite audience participation. The emphasis is on wearable articles and performances, centered on concerns of commodity and gift exchange, shelter, and self-identification as articulated through clothing. The exhibition strategy is based on the design of a bout ique rather than a gallery show, inviting visitors to abandon traditional notions of how to interact with art.
