Faber's Bicycles

Alex LaRiviere - test riding
We spent the better part of a day at Faber's checking out all of the vintage bikes Alex has out back. Housed in an old saloon, there are amazing cruizers, parts, signage and interesting characters all about.

Bike thieves strike outside A.D.
Our good friends Anabella and John had their bikes stolen just outside A.D. last night during Barron Storey's speaking event. We've posted an image of the two cruisers and description below in case you should see them over the weekend downtown or at the bike swap this Sunday.
The Red one - girl bike - has a XL sticker (like the ones that come on shirts) under the seat , the seat is very old original Schwinn/faded, the body is CANDY APPLE RED!!
The Blue one - girl bike - Is and Old English made Bike, the handle bar grips, say made in England (cream color), has a yellow sticker under it's seat too ... really old and rusty, nothing like it in SJ, that's for sure!
Please contact us with any sightings via email or the studio line 408.271.5151, and we'll pass it along. Go get 'em!

Singh sees it
Gary Singh's current "Silicon Alleys" column in the Metro talks about his high hopes for A.D. downtown. Our favorite line: "Downtown is in a constant state of remodeling and Eder, along with his partner Cherri Lakey, is moving their Anno Domini art gallery operation into the old Camera One building - a perfect return of counterculture to the SoFA district. It's about freakin' time."
We couldn't agree more.

Exquisite Corpse Artists' Reception

Christine Benjamin
After three long, HOT days, the mural is finished and we're celebrating!!
Phantom Galleries presents:
Exquisite Corpse
Paris 1925 - New York 1993 - San Jose 2005
Over 60 local artists came together to re-enact "Cadavre Exquis," a parlor game of automation, chance and accident founded by the Surrealists in the 1920s.
Join us Friday, July 22, 2005
7pm - 10pm
55 South First Street (@ the corner of Post Street), downtown San Jose
Free and open to the public
Featuring music by Corpus Callosum.
There are two forms of this exhibit, one is drawings on paper (located at 55 So. First Street), the other is a 48' long mural (located at 50 No. First Street).
The game's origin was centered around words and poetry but was adapted to the possibilitiesof drawing, and even collage, by assigning a section of a body to each player, though the Surrealist principle of metaphoric displacement led to images that only vaguely resembled thehuman form.
It is in this spirit that these two exhibits celebrate the Surrealists' notion that creativity andgenius could be a shared experience.

Bay Area Now 4

Ezra Li Eismont at YBCA
We checked out Yerba Buena's Bay Area Now 4 exhibit last night. Over all the best exhibits (in our opinion,) came from Hank Thomas, Gestault Collective (we're partial to Ezra, Sirron, Apex, Scatha & Nome)> and the four commissioned films (including Bill Daniel.)

Fair Trade Willie Wonka
On our way to Bay Area Now last night, these folks were encouraging passersby to ask Nestle to "Make my Wonka Bar Fair Trade!" and end the explotation of children cocoa pickers on the Ivory Coast.

Thank you Osseus Labyrint!

Hannah Sim and Mark Steger rehearsing
It's been our deepest desire since Barron Storey first introduced us to the work of Hannah Sim and Mark Steger as Osseus Labyrint (back in 2001) to work with them in our gallery. We had the pleasure of spending a good part of the day with them here in preparation on Saturday. If you missed the performance you really missed something extraordinary; we have the consolation of some photos to share with you. ( here and here too )
Thank you to Barron Storey and Todd Herman for the incredible sound that accompanied the performance. And thank you, Hannah and Mark, for making our 5 year mark so memorable.
What dreams may come...
