Pure Pork Sausage

I love the fact that Jack (Fischer) used the image of Stephen's Meat Products in his post about Two Fish and our gallery, Anno Domini, today. We've always seen the dancing neon pig as a sort of mascot (even though we are herbivores!). I mean think about it, why is he dancing? The odds are against him with all you carnivores lurking just around the corner and the dozens of fancy new restaurants opening around town.

This really speaks to me. I feel like that dancing pig at times. He's truly swimming against the stream. Let's face it, 10 years ago if someone asked where you were headed 'cause they knew you were planning to try to make something for your own in the arts, would you have told them San Jose? What about 5 years ago when the web industry was still going nuts and small arts groups and artists were getting booted by landlords from their buildings left and right? What about when it crashed? That's what we did, 10 years ago, but coming from the diy culture that we've always embraced, it just made sense to us. We just wanted to carve something out for ourselves and have it mean something.

Open to PublicPig

The image (above left) and the detail on its right are what we believe happens when there is a symbiotic relationship between the street and the local community. It's public art at its best. There's no hierarchy and no esotericism involved here. It's an open dialog. I think that's all any of us have ever wanted from our culture.
