Sandow Birk at SJMA
![]()
Sandow Birk, Inferno, 2003, oil on acrylic on canvas. Collection of the San Jose Museum of Art.
Sandow Birk is a contemporary master painter that portrays a post apocalyptic view of our cities and the human demise due to apathy and consumerism. The current exhibit at SJMA is Sandow's most recent series in which he retranslates Dante's The Divine Comedy: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso with massive paintings, detailed engravings and a three part book that is in urban english vernacular (the books were co-authored with Marcus Sanders.) Sandow and Marcus will hold a conversation and booksigning at the museum on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at 2pm.
It's an amazing exhibit - be sure to check it out before it ends on January 8, 2006.
