Shotgun Wedding Quintet tonight at Jazz Beyond!
Here's one for all you wondering what to do this evening in downtown. The Shotgun Wedding Quintet has expanded with friends from the Jazz Mafia as a live hip-hop symphony in town from San Francisco for the San Jose Jazz Festival. They'll be playing at the San Jose Rep tonight as part of the Jazz Beyond series. This looks like one of the best evening pics we've seen. Here's the full schedule for the weekend. See you downtown!

DIG DUG tonight!
DIGDUG is a monthly listening party and record swap at AD hosted by Nate "Ennui" LeBlanc.
Each installment features a plethora of talent behind the decks who have been encouraged to play what they want, utilizing those forgotten corners of the collection that don't fit at clubs, bars, or parties. We've also invited some of the deepest collectors in the area to bring a few crates of gems to sell or swap.
DigDug is held every second Tuesday of the month from 8-11 p.m. (Except for this month... due to special August programming for ZeroOne San Jose festival.)
Admission: Free and open to the public

ZeroOne Closing Party in SoFA tonight!
It's been quite a week to live in San Jose. We've had Akira Hasegawa in town, etoy corporation sharing Mission Eternity, pigeonblog overhead, Neighborhood Public Radio in the wired, San Jose Voices broadcasting our thoughts to the populus as they stroll by, Feral Robotic Dog packs led by Natalie Jeremijenko, ...it's the city we wanted to live in for just a week.
Well tonight is the closing party. A chance to say farewell to our new international friends on the streets of SoFA. Come out and join us all from 6 'til midnight with 3 stages of music starting at Anno Domini and ending at MACLA on South FIRST STREET. The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art presents A Painting Performance, a multi-media, interactive street event, by new media artist Clive McCarthy. His performance begins at sunset right in the middle of it all (451 South First Street). See you downtown!

Simmer Down Sprinter at AD for ZeroOne San Jose
So we hung out with Steve Lambert on Sunday (it was his birthday!) installing Simmer Down Sprinter at Anno Domini. His art project, posing as an arcade video game, has been getting some great attention across the blogosphere. The great news is that starting today, Tuesday, August 8th through Saturday, August 12th you can drop by Anno Domini and experience it in person.

PigeonBlog soars at ZeroOne San Jose
PigeonBlog provides an alternative way to participate in environmental air pollution data gathering. The project equips urban homing pigeons with GPS enabled electronic air pollution sensing devices capable of sending real-time location based air pollution and image data to an online mapping/blogging environment. Pigeonblog is a social public experiment between human and non-human animals.
Watch for the feathered data-collectors overhead here in town for ISEA 2006 / ZeroOne San Jose; they're scheduled to be released daily from August 8-12. They'll be in Irvine for TechnoSpheres on August 18th and then in Newport Beach for UbiComp on September 18, 2006.

Natalie Jeremijenko and her Feral Robotic Dog pack at ZeroOne San Jose
We ran into Natalie Jeremijenko today at the ZeroOne San Jose exhibition hall. She's the UCSD professor and brilliant force behind the open source Feral Robitic Dogs Project. I first read about her work in an article named Ooz and Oz from the second issue of O'Reilly's Make magazine (if you're not reading Make yet, I highly recommend it).
Natalie Jeremijenko speaks about two robotic projects that experiment with the redesign of structures of participation by altering machine-human interaction. Listen to her on IT Conversations for a better understanding of her efforts.

Mission Eternity by etoy corporation
We joined the press tour today and met Miss Monorom (above) from etoy Corporation. She gave us a glimpse inside Mission Eternity, a sarcophagus created from a shipping container that is used to archive and transport that which is left behind after physical death... "a massive body of information."
It's a brilliant piece that's here for ZeroOne San Jose and rests just outside the doors of the San Jose Museum of Art. Be sure to check it out.
